Interesting stuff in Nature

Scorpionfly

Scorpionflies are kind of interesting although their end-tail doesn't sting. These are found in the Southeastern United States and are generally found in woodlands.

Cranefly

Everybody mistakens this as a giant mosquito. These are harmless and are completely vegetarians. Crane flies are pretty much found all over the United States. The habitat is almost anywhere as long there is a good water sorce nearby. As nymphs they are aquatic like mosquitoes. The largest mosquito in the US is the Elephant mosquito but comes no where near as big as the crane fly. A really good way to tease and chase your friends away.

Wheel Assassin Bug

Assassin bugs are found throughout the US. The wheel assassin bug is the largest of its species. Their sting is a lot more painful that a bee sting. I never knew that before because I've been handling and playing with them in fascination. They are found in the Southeastern US. My sources are incorrect because of the introduction of these species have been leaking into the Northeastern US through shipments mainly by big companies. I know this because I've been finding them in the company shipments from the south and have been flourishing rapidly in Pennsylvania. I still play around with them even though they have a really painful sting. Just don't provoke or start poking around and they won't hurt you.

Red-banded Leafhopper

Leafhoppers are found widely through the US. The red-banded leafhoppers are interesting because their head looks very similar to a frogs head. Another interesting fact is that leafhoppers are the only known species to only walk sideways.

Blue Jay

This birds are quite beautiful but really nasty in nature. These birds are territorial and sometimes will attack if nearby a nest. In nature these birds sometimes find a nest that is occupied by another species of bird and knock all the eggs out and chase away the mother to lay their own eggs. These birds are widely found in the Eastern US. They are also a close relative to crows seeing the behavior and such is very similar.

Venus Flytrap

Venus plants are carnivorous and eat small animals but mostly arachnids and insects. These are fun plants to own. Give yourself the challenge in catching the flies for it with your bare hands and no fly swatter. Catching flies is a good exercise to test your reflexes.
